Michael-Anne Van Horn

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Michael-Anne earned her Bachelor’s in Special Education at Northeastern State University. She is a state-certified special education teacher EC-12 and General Education EC-4. Happy to call Texas home now, Michael-Anne has lived in North Texas for the past 26 years. She has over 34 years of experience in Oklahoma and Texas as a Special Educator, serving students EC-12th grade, working in public, private, charter, therapeutic, clinical, and in-home settings.

Michael-Anne’s experience in the ARD/IEP process enables her to assist families who need support, consultation, or advocacy to understand their child’s present level of academic achievement (PLAAFP), grade-level state standards (TEKS), least restrictive environment (LRE), Schedule of Services (SOS), related services, Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), goals, objectives, accommodations and/or modifications. She is skilled in the IEP and Section 504/IAP process and the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP) and Individual Accommodation Plans (IAP/Section 504) in a school setting. Michael-Anne has used her experience and knowledge to serve as an education advocate across North Texas and Northeastern Oklahoma.

Michael-Anne has a team of certified special education teachers with whom she partners to serve students with special needs. She also has a partnership with a neuropsychology clinic in North Texas where she and her team support ABA clients with academic intervention in reading and math using a web-based platform. Aside from academic intervention, Michael-Anne provides teaching of self-regulation strategies, social skills for individuals and small groups, social-emotional learning (SEL), executive function coaching, and parent coaching.

Additional areas of expertise include teaching students who present with dysgraphia, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities (ID), and low to below average standard scores (SS) or specific learning disabilities (SLD) in math calculation, written expression, spelling, reading comprehension, and reading fluency.

Michael-Anne has led education workshops in Oklahoma and Texas and provided consulting services, individual and group coaching, and training for parents of students in public school and homeschool environments.  She has consulted with pastors, children’s ministry leaders, and youth ministry leaders, and provided education workshops for church volunteers. Michael-Anne has presented for C.A.S.A, Oklahoma Early Childhood Reconnect and Recruitment, and provided homeschool workshops for parents of students with special needs.  She has provided training for early childhood teachers who support students with special needs, accommodation training including implementation and tracking, and, by special request, teaches other special educators how to provide advocacy services K-12.

Additionally, as a former State District 504 Coordinator, Michael-Anne has traveled across Texas to train administrators and staff on how to build and implement Section 504 Plans to level the playing field for students with disabilities.

Michael-Anne opened her education support, consulting, and advocacy business, Level Up Plus, in 2021. She is a passionate, experienced professional who can connect with students of all ages and abilities while creating a positive learning environment, delivering individualized educational support, and caring and compassionate help to families.

They love the extra attention and are inclined to provide affection and a sense of comfort to our students.

Research suggests that interactions with therapy dogs can increase oxytocin levels and dopamine while lowering levels of cortisol.
